Description

This album is a perfect introduction to Early Education. Themes include the alphabet, counting farm animals, parts of the body, days of the week, members of the family, opposites, fruit, colors, shapes and direction. Many of the songs encourage movement and action making this CD a favorite among educators and parents. Sara Jordan has been creating educational songs to help kids learn since 1990. Motivated by the needs of her own children and her students, her series now includes over three dozen albums including songs that teach sight words, reading readiness, phonics, grammar, math, history, French and Spanish.

I am homeschooling my kids, ages 5, 3, and 2. My 3 yo son is speech delayed, but learns very easily through music, so I was looking for some "teaching music." This CD appeared to fit the bill. However, we were very disappointed. The melodies are not likable, and all sound very similar to one another. The synthesized instruments add little musical interest. The lyrics are terrible--they try to fit in too many words, which makes for a very stumbling, awkward flow to the lyrics. In addition, many of the lyrics are simply unsingable for children of this age group. Lastly, the activities in the accompanying booklet just offer more proof that the author/composer doesn't know anything about "early learners." From the songs' topics: colors, animal sounds, ABCs, body parts, etc., you would assume this is a CD for preschoolers. But the activity books have crosswords, word unscrambling, and other materials that seemed to be more on a 2nd or 3rd grade level--long after those kids would have any interest in songs about learning the colors of the rainbow! Overall, I am extremely disappointed in this CD. We also ordered "Multiplication Unplugged" and I'm curious to see how that one sounds!
